INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES

Information Communication technologies (ICT) are instrumental in reshaping the way business is undertaken and in increasing the visibility of SMEs in the global economy. Limitations that previously existed are an issue no more, as electronic and mobile commerce has opened the path for enterprises of all types and sizes to conduct business. ICT has proven to foster innovation, productivity growth and competitiveness in private sector development.

The Digital Agenda for Europe is among the seven flagship initiatives of the Europe 2020 Strategy and aims to enable citizens and businesses to use Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) to help sustain the EU economy. The European Union’s Aid Programme to the Turkish Cypriot community has been providing significant technical assistance and grant support to SMEs to modernise processes and services through the introduction of information technology. The aim is to provide support for economic growth and for the adaptation of the Turkish Cypriot community to the implementation of the acquis communautaire.
